Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)

“As the Government’s Withdrawal Agreement Bill has been agreed by Parliament and received Royal Assent, the UK will leave the European Union on 31st January 2020 and enter a transition period until 31St December 2020.”

During the transition period, there will continue to be no changes to our current requirements to travel to the United Kingdom with pets and Recognised Assistance Dogs.
The documents that are valid for pet and Recognised Assistance Dog entry to the UK will remain the same as now until further notice.

DEFRA approved Business Aviation or Air Taxi Operators will now be able to fly owners with their pets directly to Lydd Airport for passport clearance rather than to busy London Airports. We have specially trained pet handlers with all the latest equipment and facilities. The Lydd Pets Team will meet and board the aircraft on the main apron to check the pet’s passport and micro-chip in the presence of the owner. Subject to successful clearance the pet will be free to disembark with its owner and, once the passengers have cleared Immigration (which can be arranged at the aircraft subject to PPR and a premium service fee) they can all continue their journey in the UK.

The clearance time at Lydd Airport is considerably shorter than that at Heathrow or Gatwick, and a great advantage of the service we offer is that pets (up to a maximum of 4 for just £160 +VAT) can travel in the cabin with their owners.

The Lydd Pets team must receive all documentation for the pet(s) by email at least 24 hours prior to arrival.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Only authorised carriers which comply with the requirements of the Lydd Pet Travel Scheme and hold an approval for the route issued by DEFRA will be accepted. PLEASE NOTE:: Pets can also be cleared at Lydd Airport before proceeding to any other UK airport.
